For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

Combatting Heresy 1 - Universal Forgiveness

Universal forgiveness , which is UNBIBLICAL and DANGEROUSLY teaches that everyone’s sins were automatically forgiven at the cross and NOT when you believe/trust the gospel that saves 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV). Based on my basic studies in the Apostle Paul’s epistles, this teaching is an UNBIBLICAL HERESY GATEWAY to the full blown universalism heresy that states all will be saved no matter what.

THE GOOD NEWS is that Jesus did take on the sins of the world, past , present , and future at the cross without question.  They were paid for in full by the death burial and resurrection of Jesus!! Amen !

This MADE IT POSSIBLE for gentiles to be reconciled to God by faith alone, without Israel needing to be an intermediary like under Israel’s program which has been put on hold until the fullness of the gentiles comes in (Romans 9-11 KJV).

However we were not automatically individually reconciled at the cross, however the path was cleared so that we NOW EASILY COULD be reconciled to God and be put In Christ by faith in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus.

This heresy of universal forgiveness  is based on a faulty misunderstanding of 2 Corinthians 5 KJV and they also use an Old Testament verse as well.

However in this chapter it also states:

2 Corinthians 5:20 KJV  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

If everyone was automatically reconciled to God at the cross without the need to have faith/trust  in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus , why would Paul tell us to tell people to “be ye” reconciled to God ?

Colossians 2:10-14 KJV

10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

This passage blows away the unbiblical heresy of universal forgiveness ............

Verse 13,  We were “dead in sins” AND “uncircumcision of the flesh”

Verse 11    When were we spiritually circumcised with the circumcision made without hands?   Automatically at the cross ?

When we believed/trusted the gospel that saves 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV

Verse 12 (the answer)  when we were buried with Him in baptism and risen through the faith in the operation of God.

Were we buried with Jesus in baptism automatically at the Cross or when we believe/trusted the gospel that saves ?

Obviously it was when we believed/trusted the gospel that saves and were put in Christ.

Verse 11 This verse says the body of sins of the flesh were put off by the circumcision of the flesh.   As already stated that happened when we believed/trusted the gospel that saves and NOT automatically at the cross

We were dead in our sins prior to believing/trusting the gospel that saves.  Paul makes this point again speaking to saved saints in Ephesians 2:1-5 KJV

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Verse 2 and verse 5  Before we were quickened (made alive) we were dead in trespasses and sins.

When were you quickened (made alive) in Christ ?  Automatically at the cross ?   Or when you believed/trusted the gospel that saves ?

1 Corinthians 15:22 KJV For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

When are you put in Christ ?  Automatically at the cross ?  Or when you believe/trusted the gospel that saves ?

Lastly,  Acts 26:16-18 KJV  Jesus is speaking to the Apostle Paul:

16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Verse 18 - Jesus sent the Apostle Paul to the gentiles that they may receive forgiveness of sins.  They did not automatically have forgiveness because of the cross , we get it when we believe/trust the gospel that saves today 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Faith is not a work

Remember Hebrews 11:6  KJV  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Romans 10:17 KJV

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Do not waste any more time with this dangerous heresy.  Block them and preach the gospel that saves today:

To Be Saved -> Trust / Believe 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 to be saved NOW

Then read Romans - Philemon to grow in God’s grace !

Grace and peace !!!
