Movember 2008

Hello friends

It is the beginning of the lasts - the last term of school has started for 2008, the last term of JAFFA, CRE (i.e. scripture in school), & sermon series for Lachlan; so begins the “lasts” for us in Broome.

As we reflect on the months that have passed we realise that we have much to praise and thank God for.

§ Lachlan has preached through Job and is now teaching a series on Psalms. We were certainly challenged to consider how we respond to crisis and adversity as Christians, rather than focusing “why we are suffering”.

The Saints at Exmouth Anglican Community Church

§ During the school holidays we headed down the coast showing the kids their new home in Exmouth on our way to the DNWA Synod. Our prayer was that the kids would catch the vision for Exmouth. By the second day there both the kids said to us “We really like Exmouth and want to come here to live” Praise God! When Emily heard that there were no kids in the church her age she said “That’s alright because Daddy will start up a kids club and I will go to school and invite every kid there to come along!” She then proceed to design an invitation to hand out.
§ We had a very encouraging Clergy conference and Synod. For me, one of the the most significant decisions made was the diocesan affirmation of the GAFCON Statement and Jerusalem Declaration which we helped to produce when in Israel this year. We are also thankful for great friends like the Spackmans in Geraldton and the Eatoughs in Perth who open their homes and busy lives to allow us to stay with them. We also enjoyed time with friends in Perth - it was great to see you.

§ We have really enjoyed the relationships with those we are in ministry with. Lachlan has been so encouraged by the kid’s response to the Bible overview that is being taught in CRE, and for the continued relationship building with the JAFFA families. Bec has also loved meeting with one of the older JAFFA girls for Bible study and craft during the JAFFA time on Fridays. Bible study (on Wednesday morning for Bec and Thursday night for both of us) continues to be a great source of biblical challenge and treasured friendships. We have also seen our relationships with those that we meet with individually to pray and read the Bible has strengthened. Watching how God is at work in the lives of those around us is a true source of joy.

§ We realise that God has a plan for us in Exmouth and we are looking forward to becoming part of the Exmouth Anglican Church family. Bec has started packing up the lounge room and kitchen, while the kids and Lachlan are having a hard time throwing out all their precious junk.

§ For those who have faithfully supported us in prayer and financially in Broome over the last 3 years and for those who are able to continue in this support as we head to Exmouth. Thank you for partnering in ministry with us.

§ A great Demolition Derby that saw Lachlan and Colin take out first prize against 32 other cars. They turned a VN Commodore into a hatch back.

§ A fun time raising money for research into Prostate Cancer and Men’s depression by growing a mo (A moustache for Lachlan and a mohawk for Tim)

It has also been a time of grieving.

§ Lachlan’s Granny passed away in September after a long period of illness.
§ We have been both encouraged and saddened to hear of how clergy whom we met in Jerusalem are struggling under leadership that opposes their teaching of the Gospel. We keep in regular contact with the new friends we made in Israel and they are in our daily prayers.

§ We have begun to understand just how much we are going to miss our ‘family’ here in Broome. However, hearing of the plans for the future we are excited that Broome will thrive without us!

The lead up to Christmas is always a source of busyness and great joy. We think this year will be no exception. Please be praying for:

§ The final GLAM dinner will be held on the 28th November and for our Speaker Usha Byles as she prepares.

§ The combined Christmas Carols Service on the 15th December. Lachlan is the stage manager this year.

§ The clergy and CRE teachers preparation for the school Christmas plays.

§ The need for new CRE teachers for 2009

§ The farewell friends and church family as move on from Broome.

§ Our pack up and preparation for life and ministry in Exmouth.

§ Provision for our $8,000 removalist costs and Lachlan’s stipend over the next few years. Whilst the Exmouth congregation can afford the day to day expenses, we need to raise our own stipend (wage).
§ The imminent arrival of the wet season and subsequent relief from the heat.

§ Healing of Bec’s knee (torn ACL). The Orthopaedic surgeon needs her to have a greater degree of movement before he will operate. Hopefully this can happen in first term next year.

We will be leaving Broome about the 30th December and will move into Exmouth around the 6th January.
God Bless and may you have a great Christmas.
